For a religion that has prided itself on an ever-growing worldwide membership, being labelled as an American sect is damaging to that reputation and it is not surprising that they resist that label.

Barr died in 2010 and Sydlik died in 2006. Barry died rather dramatically while giving a convention talk in Hawaii in 1999. He has a massive heart attack and collapsed on stage. They pulled him off the stage so that someone else could finish his talk.

Nuking an asteroid on the surface doesn't do anything, as the Bruce Willis movie pointed out. You have to land a party on it, drill in the vacuum of space, risk exposure to the intense heat and cold, drop the nuke down into the drilled hole, and then there might be a loose wire or something. And all of this while the asteroid is close enough to even attempt a landing, so you'd better get to drilling post-haste. Then the party needs to rendezvous at a point safely away from the asteroid to avoid being a suicide mission. You see, I just love breaking these sci-fi adventure flicks down!

Yeah, and Argentina trying to get their dirty hands on foreign soil.
Our hats are off to the planet's professionals in that area of expertise.

Inflation is going through the roof here. I was going abroad for studies this autumn, but now I'm leaving in spring. Fernandez' economists cooked the books and now we're paying the price. All my money is now in foreign currency, bank accounts abroad.

Wouldn't it be cool if the pope did an expose thing like Ray Franz did?!
by Muddy Waters inwouldn't it be cool if the pope did an expose thing about the catholic church and all the heirarchies/inside secrets, etc., like ray franz did when he exposed the inner workings at the highest level of the jw religion?

Ratzinger was always looked upon as one of the traditionalists in the church. The guy is old, and just wants some peace and quiet in his few remaining years. To pen such an exposé would completely defeat that purpose, and even give him more visibility than he had as pope, not to mention a huge target on his back. If he wanted to forment reform within the church, he would have just stayed in the position he was in. He never wanted the job in the first place, and was quite open about it. He wanted to retire to Germany to write, but John Paul II wouldn't let him. This should come as no big surprise that he's getting out now.

Or maybe they just drop the hours for aux. pioneers even further, and imply heavily that the 'Publisher' rank is typically reserved for the elderly and infirm. Then you almost need a special dispensation for being a Publisher.

If both parties are in complete agreement to handle their private matters in a religious court, I don't see any compelling reason against it. What should happen is that a hearing must follow in a government court where the judge asks both parties if they are willing to abide by the decision of the religious court, and if so, they put the government seal on it. The judge should take pains to make both parties acknowledge that they are willingly abdicating their rights for a trial in a state-run court. It would then be like an uncontested divorce settlement.

Woo! You can attend the circuit overseer's meeting with the regular pioneers! And why not? Gives them an excellent opportunity to shame you into becoming a regular pioneer. Brother/Sister - What is holding you back from regular pioneering?

Cruise ships have recently been on the receiving end of a lot of bad publicity, starting with the Concordia disaster in Italy. I personally love the sea and enjoy the feeling of being there onboard with restaurants, casinos, duty free shops, shows, outdoor activities, and so forth.
